Poems (Dua)

Translation:

My longing comes to my lips as supplication of mine O God!
May like the candle be the life of mine!

May the world's darkness disappear through the life of mine!
May every place light up with the sparkling light of mine!

May my homeland through me attain elegance
As the garden through flowers attains elegance

May my life like that of the moth be, O Lord!
May I love the lamp of knowledge, O Lord!

May supportive of the poor my life's way be
May loving the old, the suffering my way be

O God! Protect me from the evil ways
Show me the path leading to the good ways

ऐ मालिक तेरे बन्दे हम - Ae Malik Tere Bande Hum

Increasing rape cases: the obvious reasons

Rape – an heinous crime – which is increasing day by day, hour by hour, minute by minute and second by second. Thinkers are thinking to reduce the crime; Philosophers making another philosophy out of it yet the rate of the crime is increasing by increasing rate.

For any crime to get reduced or stop we ought to go to the root cause. Know the reasons why it is happening. Be honest in accepting the reasons and endeavor to solve the problem logically.

When you bring your emotions, feelings, sentiments and passions in between the solutions, you will never stop the crimes that are prevailing. You fail to realize that the crime gains momentum due to your behavior towards the particular problem.

Let us analyze the reasons logically and try to solve this problem and defend the honor of women – the jewels of the society.

Atmosphere: The prevalent environment where men and women are close together. They are so close that they even know the personal secrets. This closeness opens the pathways of lewdness. The relationship of boy-friend and girl-friend is very much encouraged by our atmosphere (friend circle, parents, cousins, etc). By nature, man is more sexual than woman and gets attracted towards them. This causes the crime to happen. So we should always prevent ourselves from the things which harm us.

Education: The education system is so worse that even if a woman wants to be modest it makes her immodest. There are no segregation between men and women. The education institutions do not have specific timings of their classes. In the name of lab, surgery, practicals etc. students are called in the colleges at any time. Due to this parents cannot have a check on their children and it becomes easy for them to involve in such activities which leads to the happening of this crime.

Behavior: The behavior of men and women towards this crime is so lenient that it does not astonish them when this heinous crime is committed and why should it surprise us? It is widespread in our society and we are used to it.

Late Marriages: We have the concept of enjoying life. Due to this glamorization, we fail to realize the important concept of marriage. Due to late marriages men and women cannot control their desires and fall into the satanic trap and commit this monstrous crime.

Pornography: This industry has destroyed the young and productive people of the society. It is available freely that even an innocent person searching on Google for his/her college project can come across the websites of pornography. This industry has beautifully planned and trapped the youngsters. The only solution is to block these websites from the country.

Bollywood: This industry is a semi-porn industry. The scenes shown in the movies are enough to make a mind corrupt. The lifestyle shown in the movies and the relationship between man and woman which is portrayed in the films, are the major reasons for the increase of this crime.

Dress-up: Dress-up matters a lot. Women dressing seminude and posing in public, tight and revealing clothes attracts men towards them. By nature men are more sexual than women, men gets attracted more towards women than vice versa. Even revealing clothes of man can also lead to this crime. This is a two-way traffic.

Punishment: Punishment for the rape cases are much lower than the harm caused. In Indian court, the person freely walks in the society for months and years together, because of the tortoise-paced judicial system where we get hearings after hearings. And in case of western countries, the accused will get lenient punishment and in turn he again rapes. On the contrary, when women accuse falsely to trap their boy-friend or friends and in retaliation these people become criminals.

Dates / Relationship: We often hear the term date-rape. Dating is unethical and it is the door and way for such crimes. People go for dates and when they get raped they make hue and cry for this. We should know what is good and what is bad.

Norms: People usually have forgotten the ethics. They don’t even judge what is right and what is wrong. Children staying out late nights in clubs and parties and parents do not have any problem with this. It is obvious and high chances of women getting raped in this situation. The norms have totally changed in this era, and bad are no longer considered bad.

We should think upon it and ponder upon the situations. Don’t let your emotions come in between, think logically and accept what is right, go to the root cause of the problem, then you will get the solution immediately. When the harmful rays of the sun hits you, you immediately get protection by wearing sun-glasses, hand gloves, and also tie naqab around your face. You don’t say: We have every right to roam here and there and Sun’s rays should not hit us. I have pointed out the reasons for the rape cases and I believe you are logical enough to get the solution for it.

THE VICIOUS CIRCLE OF EDUCATION – PARENTS, TEACHERS, AND STUDENTS

Parents, teachers and students are the main framework of education. They are interdependent on each other and have some rights and duties towards each other. In this era of modernization, we come towards the vicious circle of Education. I had learnt in Economics “Vicious circle of Poverty” in my college days (When I was in Gogte College of Commerce, Belgaum), the outcome of that circle which I learnt is “We are poor because we are poor”! All the issues of poverty are related to one another. Same is the case with education - Parents, Teachers, and Students are inter-connected. When students do not excel in examinations, parents say teachers do not teach well; when it comes to teacher, she says students do not concentrate and study, they say parents are not responsible… so on and so forth go the allegations. The blame game continues to go on..

I remember my teacher’s saying when I was in standard ninth in Al Ameen English medium High School, that, the relation between these three characters in Education is very important and they should be very cooperative to each other. This prompted me to pen down and strengthen the bond of Teachers, Parents and Students. If any of the bonds loses its charm then the looser will always be a student (in particular) and a nation (as a whole) (because tomorrow’s Nation is built by todays’ students.)

We should always know our duties and responsibilities. If Teachers and parents do not fulfill their duties in initial days, then hoping a student to be responsible in future is mere foolishness. Planning for the child’s future should be done much before. The best gift a father can give to his child is a “responsible mother” – his first teacher! The best institute is known for its faculties. And the best faculty in the world is a mother.

If parents train their child with good morals and behavior since their childhood, he will imbibe all the good qualities within him and when he is admitted in school it is the duty of teachers to give him a good atmosphere. When the atmosphere changes; he slowly adapts to the new atmosphere and soon learns newer things which prevails around him. Even if the parents give him good morals, it will be useless when his teacher misbehaves with him. He gets accustomed to the misbehavior and strictness of the teacher and in turn does not listen to his parents too.

The relation between teachers, parents and students get closer only if the institution has well trained teachers. I believe there should be well trained and well qualified teachers who teach lower classes like Nursery, Junior KG, Senior KG, First standard, etc. as we all know the twisted questions of young developing minds. The funny questions should be handled in a funny way. The illogical question should put back to the student in the most logical way. And this requires well trained teachers who have patience, dedication and passion.

It is the nature of children to make fun, have that exclusive naughty attitude, create noisy environment and enjoy. And it should be in the nature of a teacher to handle these situations with care, love and affection.

When the two of the main characters perform their duties in the initial stages then the third main character will automatically perform his duties in future.

Corruption in India and the responsibilities of Government.

It does not shock Indians anymore to know that, not only the Politicians, Ministers and IAS & IPS officers are corrupt but even the Judges, Professors, Doctors and NGO organisations are.
India is among the seven “most corrupt” countries in the world, according to a statistical index drawn by a German non-governmental organisation measuring perceptions of corruption in 41 countries. Corruption in India leads to promotion not prison. Corruption in India has wings not wheels. As the nation grows, the corrupt also grow along with it to invent new methods of cheating the government and public. Why is India still a “developing” country after years of independence?? The only answer is corruption! Whether it’s a village, small town or a big city, nothing ever happens in India without the lubricant of a bribe. From the labourers to contractors, police officials to judges, the government, and the so-called politicians.....all are corrupt!

It is the duty of every Indian to help curb corruption in whatever small way he/she can. We, th
e future of India, should never favour corruption and try to stop it wherever possible. The problem lies within us, because we are very tolerant with matters relating to corruption. If we, the 1.25 billion population of India join hands, then we can eradicate corruption from the grass-root level. It’s such a shame when we read through that India is one of the most corrupt nations in the world, but still we are very tolerant with it. Unfortunately, this view has not disturbed most of the Indians at all and they do not seem to care as to what others think of them; so long as the existing systems and practices would allow them to make money and get things done in one way or the other.

We get upset if one of our heroes does not get recognized for a Padma award during the Republic Day honours. We become disappointed if a movie showcases the reality of Mumbai slums in a picture. But, we are very tolerant when:
a) Political parties nominate people wit
h crime record for state and national assembly.
b) Political parties use religions to divide the citizens for votes.
c) Corruption cases against politicians drag for years together in courts with no outcome.

d) Corruption cases are kept under wraps by parties in power for the purposes of electoral alliances.
e) Political parties openly give money and free gifts to voters using novel methods.

f) People in power strangle the throats of those who raise their voice against misrule.

What is the effect of us being intolerant where we should be patient and to
lerant? What is the effect of us being tolerant where we have to be extremely impatient and intolerant? The irony is that India is still considered to be a very religious country and it is still widely believed that religion is the basis of Indian life, thoughts and actions. This is obviously true, considering the fact that there are hundreds of temples, churches and mosques spread all over the country and they are all densely visited day in and day out by the feverishly praying Indians.

Is not religious ethos contrary to corruption and dishonest practices? The unfortunate situation in India is that those who call themselves “most religious” are often found to have indulged themselves in dishonest practices on many occasions. Several of the religious centres - of all religions - are suspected to be steeped in nepotism; as such incidents have been repeatedly published in the press.
It does not shock Indians anymore to know that, not only the politicians, ministers and IAS & IPS officers are corrupt but even the judges, professors, doctors and NGO organisations are. Corruption is not only prevalent amongst rich who are greedy in spite of possessing enough, but also prevalent amongst poor. Now, what can be the future of the Indian society in such conditions? It can be only frustration, chaos, unrest and even bloodshed in the not too distant future. This kind of corruption in the national polity, public and private life cannot go on for ever, without disturbing the overall peace in the society. It is sad that those who are in charge of the nation today do not appear to realise this and still are merrily going ahead with their dealings unconcerned about the harm that it would inevitably do to the larger national cause.

What is very sad and extremely disquieting about this country is that Ministers suspected to be involved in murder. Chief Ministers of swindling crores of public money, Senior Police Officers of molestation charges - are all living in comforts and enjoying positions, thus effectively exposing the fact that the crusade against corruption has finally failed in India.

Even as the vicious cycle of corruption would continue with one swindling the other, there could be a number of persons who would be left out of this cycle due to inefficiency or commitment to the cause of truth and such persons would be driven down to despair.

The incidents of history indicate that some of such persons who are out of the corruption loop could take up the war against corruption at one time or the other. But, they would find that in a corruption entrenched system, they would not be able to improve the conditions. Therefore, a few of them may finally take to physica
l attack on corrupt and dishonest persons, leading to violence and bloodshed. Security, dogs and mere police rifles will not be able to beat down such determined crusaders.

The politicians and bureaucrats would call such crusaders as arsonists or terrorists. But, history would judge them differently. There are a number of determined isolated war groups already existing in the country and they are generally branded as terrorist groups and treated brutally by the state machinery, without investigating the reasons for their existence. One would shudder to think as what would happen to the peace of the society, if such groups would enlarge in size and number.

Those holding th
e positions of President, Prime Minister and Chief Ministers should have the wisdom to realise the potential dangers facing this corrupt ridden Indian society. They should not remain as small people who would compromise with the aspects of good governance for the sake of remaining in power for a few number of days more. Leadership is always backed by responsibilities. Leaders should always be concerned with his responsibilities to his fellow citizens and the nation as a whole. They should be the role-model for the society. But the reality is diverse.

In October 2010, Police and Income tax department caught Rs. 6.44 lacs from the Congress Party at the time of election. In April 2009, Rs. 48 lacs in Guntur town, and Rs. 10 lacs cash, liquor and sarees were seized from Praja Rajyam Party in Prakasam district (A.P.); and rupees five lacs were seized from Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) party in the same year. In April 2008, Rs. 3.21 crore poll money seized in Mandya (Karnataka). Even more than 12000 sarees were also seized; apart from crores of rupees in other states. Bhartiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Chief Minister of Karnataka was also involved in land scam case.

Now, the whole country is awestruck at the rising food prices. Price of onions is soaring high from Rs. 40 to Rs. 90 per kilogram in just 15 days. We all know that majority of the Indians are poor and many are below the poverty line, who can’t even manage one meal a day. In this situation, how can these people fill their stomach?? Is the Government showing concern towards them? The answer is obviously NO! What is our honourable Union Agriculture Minister, Sharad Pawar doing to overcome this situation? He is busy making money by exporting onions to Dubai, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Yes, this is true and the truth of Indian government! When there is a shortage in the country itself, then what is the need of exporting! Is money-making more important for our government than feeding a billion population? Since time immemorial, corruption has been killing Indians and will continue doing so if not confronted face-on.

Corruption is a cancer, which every Indian must strive to cure. Many new leaders when come into power declare their determination to eradicate corruption but soon they themselves become corrupt and start amassing huge wealth. There are many myths about corruption, which have to be exploded if we really want to combat it. And most of the people think, corruption is a way of life and nothing can be done about it; only people from under-developed or developing countries are prone to corruption. But this is not the case. We have to guard against all fallacies while planning measures to fight corruption.

Honest and dedicated persons in public life, control over electoral expenses could be the most important prescriptions to combat corruption. It has a corrosive impact on our economy; it worsens our image in the international market and leads to loss of overseas opportunities. Corruption is a global problem that all countries of the world have to confront. Solutions, however, can only be home grown. We have tolerated corruption for so long. The time has now come to root it out from its roots. If we don’t fight today then the water will pass its limit. And it becomes too difficult to combat it.

Yet, if our Government goes on neglecting the rise of corruption, then in no time the division of the country will occur and the great dream of India becoming a “developed” Nation, will only be a dream.

NOT IN FRONT OF THE CHILDREN!!!

“Receive the call and tell my boss that papa isn’t at home” or “don’t tell mum that I was smoking”……words spoken by parents intentionally or unintentionally have a devastating effect on children. Home is the first school of a child where the child learns the basics of leading a respectful life. Our children learn through imitating us. We are their role models. Whatever they do, or become, we as parents, are greatly responsible for their behavior. It is for this reason that we should act consciously for our behavior might negatively influence our children and determine who they become.
“Say I’m not well”……we yell to our spouses or our children when a phone rings. Although we don’t do it intentionally, but we cannot even imagine its devastating effect on our children. We, being parents, set a bad example in front of our children and consequently our children start lying because they believe “it’s okay to lie, mom and dad do it every time”. Are we really being good parents as Allah (swt) wants us to be? Islam, views lying as a serious vice. It is a sign of Hypocrisy. Allah says in the Qur’an “And do not say that of which you have no knowledge.” (Qur’an 17:36).
We should never make false promises to our children, this is also a lie! Let me give you an example to make you understand better. Many a times, we tell our children, “If you complete your meal on time then you’ll get an ice-cream”, and when the child does as said, we step back from what we promised! By doing this, we lose confidence of our children and they will not believe us from the next time and eventually will not listen to us too.
Another thing that we often do as parents is argue and fight in front of the children. No matter how angry we are or how badly wronged we feel we are, we should maintain our calm and avoid yelling at each other in front of our children. This will tear them apart emotionally.
We might not agree with our spouse over one thing or another but it is no use demonizing him or her in front of the children. We find many parents complaining bitterly about their spouse to their children in the absence of the other party. Whilst this might seem the right thing to do for the wronged spouse, the truth of the matter is, it is not.
You will not solve anything by telling your children that their father or mother is hopeless, terrible etc in fact, you will emotionally torment your children. They will lose their sense of security. Children need a home where both mother and child are happy, a home where their parents display the feeling of togetherness.
If ever you have to argue or talk to each other about any nasty incident, make sure you do that in the absence of your children. Do that privately and make sure you show smiling faces to your children so that you do not disturb them.
Children who grow up listening to kind words will grow up to be very compassionate adults. Children who grow up listening to harsh and rude words will grow up to be very hard hearted adults who know no compassion for anyone.
We should never make fun of others in front of our children. We should never watch bad television programs or movies in front of the children, it breaks down their morality and they lose respect for us. Rather Islamic channels increase their knowledge as well as Imaan and help them to become good human being
We, as Muslims should try to be the best parents to our children. Our children is the future of this Ummah and of this country, we should mould our children in such a way that they bring honor to us. Raising kids is an incredible responsibility. As human beings, we will at times do wrong and make mistakes but please, NOT IN FRONT OF THE CHILDREN!
